Open access information

As of 1 July 2010, the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) replaces the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (FOI).

This new legislation is different to the previous FOI legislation as it encourages the proactive release of government information on agency websites unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure, for example, someone’s personal details.  To read more about the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) go to the quick link section below.

Office of the Information Commissioner

The Office of the Information Commissioner has been established to promote public awareness and understanding of the new Act.
