Each year, the NSW Government appoints suitably qualified people from across NSW to a limited number of board vacancies on the Art Gallery of NSW Trust, the Australian Museum Trust, the Board of the New South Wales Film and Television Office, the Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales, the Library Council of New South Wales, the Powerhouse Museum Board and the Sydney Opera House Trust. The Government is establishing a register of NSW-based people interested in serving in these positions for use in 2010 and future years.
The attributes being sought will contribute to a balanced mix of expertise at board level, and combined with a commitment and capacity to work at a strategic level over a term of 3 years, they range from previous board experience; strong business, commercial, legal or financial expertise; capacity to attract philanthropic interest, or a relevant academic background. Boards usually meet between 6 and 12 times a year and members may be appointed to sub-committees where additional time is required.
The positions are not remunerated. However, travelling costs are met for applicants from regional New South Wales.
